Like the Apostle Paul said, we are only sojourners on this earth, meaning that all of us have a story of where we coming from and where we going to, and so does YWAM Durban. History and Focus of the base
The vision for an YWAM base in Durban was born about three years ago after Wilson and I (Grace) went to a revival seminar in Argentina. Everyday for three weeks we had very anointed pastors praying and imparting the word of God to us. This led to many sleepless nights as God was stirring our hearts to pioneer a new but different kind of base in Durban.

We came back to host a Leadership Training School (LTS) in the beginning of 2003 at Jeffrey’s Bay. The vision began to take shape as we begin to pray every Thursday morning for the next three months, and strategize. God eventually drew a team around us and after several trips into the Promised Land we took possession of our first beautiful property. While we still don’t own this property we are trusting God to release the finances needed to own this place.

The vision for the base specifically started to take shape after Wilson was given opportunities to speak in several Zulu churches in Durban. It was at a very large church of about 2000 members that the Lord challenged him to speak about the warrior spirit.

But first, Wilson felt the need to ask for forgiveness on behalf of his people (Xhosa) for the years of bitterness and enmity that had estranged them.
Afterwards, the Holy Spirit led him to challenge the church to stir up the warrior spirit. The challenge was to take up arms against the onslaught of every demonic spirit of crime, poverty and sickness that is ravaging our beautiful country.
We believe God wants to redeem this people group so that they may walk into their destiny.

Wilson also visited an Indian church and realized how strategic Durban is for world missions. We believe the time is ripe to start this historical movement, to see the face of missions being changed, to see the indigenous people being release as missionaries. God’s glory is too vast that one culture can contain it; God is going to use the richness and diversity of our cultures for His glory. The Harvest for Missions has begun.

Ethekwenini

Durban Metro Area has 3,5 million people, a city influenced by various religions. Christians, Muslims and Hindus mainly influence the city. South Africa has always been known for its diversity. Durban is the city where people come in contact with that reality; it has the largest population of Indians outside of India. Add the English and Afrikaans and you will experience a little of Rev 7:9 where all tribes, nations and langue assemble. Which makes Durban the ideal place for cross-cultural outreaches and evangelism. Also with its rich heritage back to Zhakka Zulu, the warrior King and with our beautiful beaches it is an ideal place for birthing new ministries.
